A hand signed, limited edition print (numbered lower left 32/100) from the year 1968, by the famed Italian modernist sculptor ARNALDO POMODORO (1926-). The presently unframed work is untitled, and measures 30" by 22 1/4". Pomodoro is world-renowned for his massive bronze sculptures, many of which grace prominent public places around the globe. At least one such sculpture has auctioned for over one million dollars. According to information on a Guggenheim Foundation site, the artist was a consultant for the restoration of public buildings in Pesaro from after the war through 1957. He also studied stage design and worked as a goldsmith. In 1954 Pomodoro was in Milan, where he met such art luminaries as Enrico Baj, Sergio Dangelo, and Lucio Fontana. Shortly thereafter the first solo exhibition of his work took place. In 1959 he met Alberto Giacometti and George Mathieu, and in 1960, Louise Nevelson and David Smith. After a solo show at the Venice Biennale of 1964, the artist was the recipient of ever-increasing accolades and recognition. Today the senior artist lives and works in Milan, having taught newer generations of artists in both Europe and North America. He is known for his geometric shapes, including the column, cube, pyramid, sphere and disc, incorporated into amazingly complex bronze spheres and massive bronze panels. The so-called "Sphere Within a Sphere" is a favorite motif. Pomodoro's early prints have themselves brought into five figures. This work of 1968 could be described I believe as lithography with collage, the silvery reflective central portion affixed onto the paper. This print was subjected to water at some time in its life, as photos of the bottom portion indicate. There is discoloration and a few darker spots, and rumpling of the paper there, roughly corresponding to the bell-shaped area of moisture damage most easily visible on the reverse side; please study the photos. Shipping rolled carefully in a tube would be economical.
