A lovely hand colored scene, "City of Providence", engraved by listed American 19th century artist ASA COOLIDGE WARREN (1819-1904) after an apparent painting by artist R. Hinshelwood (see lower right margin for that name). Robert Hinshelwood (1812-1879) came from England circa 1835; he was an engraver, etcher and painter. The panoramic view is from a high point, and some tiny figures in the composition add human interest. Coolidge was apprenticed as an engraver in the Boston area, working for the New England Bank Note Company and Ticknor & Fields publishers. The condition is excellent; a fine acquisition for your Rhode Island home, or for anyone who appreciates nineteenth century American views. Print measures 6 1/2" by 9 1/2", and 11 1/4" by 14" framed. Allow for reflections in some images.
