Original etching "Alderney Street", by iconic artist JAMES ABBOTT MCNEILL WHISTLER (1834-1903). This is a 2nd state (of three), published in 1881. In the margin at lower left is "Gazette des Beaux-Arts" and at lower right "Imp. Cadart", among the distinguishing features of the second state. Whistler's famous "Butterfly" symbol appears at upper right. The print was used to illustrate an article on Whistler's Nocturnes and Etchings, by Theodore Duret. This example is lightly hinged in the corners but not laid down. It is very clean and fresh. Measurements are 7" by 4 5/8" inside the present mat and 17" by 12 1/2" as framed.
