Hand carved cedar wood panel, in traditional style with black and red paint, 14 1/2" by 5 1/2" by 1 1/2" deep, signed at lower right corner by contemporary British Columbia Wet'suwet'en carver JAMES MADAM and dated 2008. The work is meant to hang on the wall as is (reverse hook). Madam is a talented carver schooled in the long tradition of Northwest Coast carving. He was born in Moricetown, in inland British Columbia. Inspired by his grandfather, a hunter and spiritual leader, Madam trained for two years beginning in 1989 at Kanmaax Northwest Coast Indian Arts School.
