Contemporary watercolor full length portrait of a young woman seated on a sofa, titled "Zoe", 28 3/4" by 18" (36" by 25" as framed), signed at lower center by New York-born artist AL ZERRIES (1940-2009). Zerries studied at Pratt in New York and for more than twenty years was an art director and creative director at Manhattan advertising agencies. He also taught at the School of Visual Arts. It was not until the 1990's that he began to paint and draw on his own, taking lessons from Burton Silverman. Within a few short years, by 2001, Zerries was already exhibiting widely in the United States and abroad, consistently winning awards. Tragically, Zerries was killed by a hit-and-run driver on Long Island in early 2009, while walking his dog. A website featuring his works in oil, watercolor and pastel remains online. This particular work of the year 2006 is in excellent condition. A label affixed to the backing paper shows that the painting was exhibited at the Mississippi Museum of art in Jackson, MS from October 5, 2008 through January 4, 2009, as part of the Mississippi Watercolor Society Grand National Watercolor Exhibition. Insurance value of $5,000 is shown on the label.
