A fine oil on canvas painting of the hushed, shaded space at the base of a cluster of native palms in a canyon near Palm Springs, by noted contemporary California artist TERRY MASTERS (1955-), signed at upper right and titled "In the Grove" and signed again and dated Nov. 2008 on reverse. The setting could well be in Andreas Canyon, just south of Palm Springs, where the artist has spent considerable time painting the dramatic landscape. The work measures 24" by 30" (31" by 37" framed). Terry Masters was born in Sacramento in mid century and came to the desert at age 12 with his family, his asthmatic mother seeking a more agreeable climate. He came to love the new environment in which he found himself, admiring the works of desert painter Paul Grimm. After a stint as a radio announcer and manager he turned to his true love, art, and blossomed. Masters' works have been sold in quality galleries across the Southwest, from Palm Springs to Sedona to Santa Fe. A member of the prestigious California Art Club, and the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, he for some years has instructed a new generation of artists at the Desert Art Center in Palm Springs. This painting is in an attractive gold frame and is ready for the wall, in excellent condition.
