A rare opportunity to acquire a drawing by internationally known Sri Lanka master artist SENAKA SENANAYAKE (1951-). Senanayake was a prodigy artist and had his first exhibition at Asia House in New York City at age 10. He brought that talent to Yale University where he received formal art training and matured as an artist. After his return to Sri Lanka he painted actively and brought attention to environmental issues such as forest clearing on the island. Recent auction records have exceeded $15,000 for oils; drawings are only very rarely encountered. The auction record shows that the artist frequently painted horses or deer-like creatures in motion, such as what we see here. This drawing in ink and marker pen is signed at lower right where it is dated 1966 (when the artist was only 15). The watercolor measures 5 3/4" by 5 3/4". It is unframed. Some brownish discoloration around the edges could be some sort of leaching from old pre-existing mats, or, might possibly be artist intent (I think that less likely).
