From a high end Southern California estate, a fine oil on canvas laid down on Masonite, 23" by 18 3/4" (27 1/2" by 23 1/2" in late 20th century frame), apparently unsigned, in the style of the renowned 17th century Dutch artists such as Jan de Heem. The details of the various types of flowers are impressive, as are those of the snails, the moth, and the water droplets on the leaves. The more one studies this the more one sees. The lack of a signature (unless it be on the reverse side of the canvas which is glued down) means that this will stand on its own as a highly decorative fine oil that will grace any traditional style interior. A best guess is that this was executed in the 19th century, probably in Europe, after a known work, perhaps.
