A quality southwestern contemporary painting of a young Native American girl of New Mexico or Arizona, her hair in the traditional bun style, her shawl also traditional, signed at lower left by the noted western American artist LYLE TAYSON SR. (1924-2014). The oil on canvas measures 16" by 12" (20 1/2" by 16 1/2" framed). Condition is excellent. The frame has a few minor chips missing. Tayson was born in Omaha, Nebraska and served in World War II and Korea. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and worked in Chicago in commercial art until 1975, at which time he uprooted his family and headed to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he established a very successful career in fine art. Today his paintings of Native Americans, portraits, still life, depictions of historical events in the west, cowboys, landscape and wildlife are handled by prestigious Santa Fe galleries and western high end auctions. The painting would make for a quality addition to any collection of Native American art and artifacts.
