Oil on canvas painting of a dirt track in an autumn forest, 16" by 24" (25 1/2" by 33 1/4" as framed), signed at lower right by the noted Indiana impressionist, EDWARD SITZMAN (1874-1949). This is a peaceful scene of late autumn. The artist is known for his watercolor and oil paintings of such landscapes, usually lacking figures. Watercolors are more commonly seen, the oils relatively scarce. This example needs to be cleaned and varnished as the surface is dry and blanched, but with that cleaning will come a renewed work. That work could be accomplished here on behalf of the purchaser---ask for estimate. The frame is likely original, and it has some losses as shown. Written in pencil on the stretcher is "W E Lockhart/913 Dan Waggoner Bldg/Ft Worth Tex". The painting was purchased in Los Angeles so we can see that it traveled through Texas on the way west.
