Impressionist plein air style painting of trees in a dramatic valley, quite possibly or likely Yosemite, signed at lower left corner by listed California artist EVA VANLOAN SMITH (1890-1982). The work, canvas laid on board, measures 17 1/2" by 13 1/4" in its likely original vintage frame. Smith was a third generation Californian who was married to a Presbyterian minister. Her daughter Elisabeth was alive in Orange County until 2012 and an online obituary for her gives interesting details of the family's life in the first half of the century in California and Nevada. This work is in excellent vintage condition. The artist's color palette of pinks, greens and blues is quite distinctive.
