Impressionist seascape oil painting on canvas board, 8" by 10" (13 1/2" by 15 1/2" framed) signed at lower right by Colorado artist ALFRED JAMES WANDS (1904-1998). On the reverse in pencil is written "Artist---Alfred Wands/2065 Ivanhoe St./Denver 7 Colo.". The work likely dates to the 1950's. Wands was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended the Cleveland Art Institute, then went to Europe for studies in Brussels and Munich. Upon return to the US he relocated to Denver and became head of the art department at Colorado Women's College, where he remained for 17 years. During the 1930's he was often in Taos, New Mexico. In 1947 he left the teaching position to devote his time fully to painting, and in 1955 he opened a studio in Estes Park. Wands is known as the "Dean of Colorado Landscape Painters". A light cleaning would be beneficial, and there is a small area of abrasion/paint loss at top center. Frame has light to moderate wear.
