(**One of several works by the artist in my shop**). Unlike most commonly seen works by this artist, which are actually serigraph prints, this is an original gouache and watercolor painting, measuring 19" by 18 3/4" (24 3/4" by 24" in gold metal framing). The scene is titled at lower left "Stockholm"; the distinctive waterways, towers and bridges of that scenic Swedish city fill the composition. The work is signed at lower right "Dietrich" (HERMANN DIETRICH 1916-2003). Dietrich's online profile has only in recent years become more developed. Born in Sweden in 1916, by age 22 the budding young artist was in Chicago for art training, and then in San Francisco, where by 1939 he was executing designs for projects relating to the Golden Gate International Exposition. Only a few years later Dietrich began a long run in Los Angeles, working for the entertainment industry giants, such as 20th Century Fox, Paramount Studios, Goldwyn, and Disney. After the war, he began to undertake a number of design projects for commercial sites such as hotels, banks, and even the S.S. United States ocean liner and Harry Truman's Key West, Florida Winter White House. In 1956 he began a business relationship which involved the creation of signed silkscreen prints, which became widely distributed. The success of this enterprise enabled him to concentrate on his fine art career between the 1960's and the mid 1990's at which time health problems began to limit his activity. See a website created by his son from memoirs his father left behind, detailing a long and successful career in commercial and fine art. I have seen many, many silkscreens, pencil signed by the artist, but actual oil paintings and watercolors by him are scarce. **Will be shipped without the present non-glare detail-dulling glass, which in any event is already cracked at lower left corner.**
