Desirable and interesting map with some hand coloring, "Carte de la Caroline et Georgie", dated 1757, by French cartographer Jacques Nicolas Bellin. The map shows present day North and South Carolina, as well as Georgia, and portions of Tennessee and Virginia. Detail is fascinating, with the Tennessee River shown as the "Callamaco", and other quaint old geographic names such as "Pais des Apalaches" and "Village d'Indiens", "Isle Chick Chauk" (Kitty Hawk!!), "Charles Town" and "Port Royal" (the present-day Hilton Head area). The map was plate number 11 in volume 9 of the 1757 French edition of Abbe Provost's "L'Histoire Generale des Voyages". Maps of the coastal Carolina area are quite popular, and the increasing population moves towards that part of the country should only increase interest in this scarce old map. The work is unframed, lightly taped at top only. It is clean and fresh and ready for framing. Measurements are 9" by 12 1/2" including margins.
