A chromolithograph print of a pair of grouse on fallen birch logs in a forest, circa 1900, by the listed New Jersey shore wildlife and sporting art artist GERARD RUTGERS HARDENBERGH (1855-1915). The piece (19" by 23 1/2" framed) is in excellent condition, despite having been found without any protective glass. The frame has authentic wear. Hardenbergh was a noted New Jersey artist known for paintings of game birds, fish, and the local landscape. The work resembles that of artist Alexander Pope. An old circa 1940's Kansas City handwritten label on reverse refers to another work by the artist Munchausen, so the frame might have framed another print or painting at one time.
