A beautifully executed circa 1900 watercolor painting of a sunny courtyard of a stone building, purple wisteria vines framing the arch, signed at lower right by artist G. DE LUCA, and titled on reverse "Ravello". The piece measures 14 1/4" by 10 1/2" (21 1/2" by 18", no glass, framed). De Luca seems to have been a talented artist, though, there is no biographical information available online. Works that have appeared at auction are principally of classic Italian figures, such as old men smoking pipes. Ravello is one of the famous scenic towns of the dramatic Amalfi Coast south of Naples, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The painting is in fresh excellent condition (was protected behind glass until it broke in shipping). The artist was masterful in his handling of the Mediterranean light.
