A typical work by the noted New Orleans artist NESTOR FRUGE (1916-), 12 1/4" by 16 1/2" (19" by 23 1/2" framed), featuring a familiar scene of the old French Quarter on a rainy day, the "Court of the Two Sisters" sign clearly visible at right. Fruge painted mostly watercolors and was a familiar and beloved part of the tourist scene for decades. Examples traveled home with innumerable tourists, accounting for their geographical dispersion; this one was found near Boston. He is said to have been still painting while in his 90's. The artist's impressionist style is distinctive and recognizable at a distance. This piece is in excellent condition. All photos taken through detail-dulling non-glare glass, which should be replaced.
