Vintage circa 1940's etching titled in pencil at lower left margin "Hidden Lake", signed at lower right margin in pencil by the noted Colorado artist LYMAN BYXBE (1886-1980). The print exhibits even age toning of the paper within the mat opening but otherwise is in excellent condition; the mat is browned at upper right and it should be replaced with acid free materials. Byxbe was born in Illinois and trained to be a commercial artist in Omaha. By the mid 1930's he was living in Estes Park, Colorado, where he opened a studio, producing a large variety of etchings depicting the Colorado high country. He was a member of the Chicago Society of Etchers and the Miniature Print Society of Kansas City. Measures 6 3/4" by 4 7/8" inside the mat and 14 1/2" by 11 1/2" overall. No glass. The original thin strip frame is of low quality and is coming apart in the corners.
