An original drawing, 16" by 19 1/2" (21" by 27" simply framed), signed at center right by the noted American artist and illustrator HENRY KOEHLER (born 1927). Although rather straightforward and unadorned by any color, the drawing shows the skill of the artist. Koehler was born in Louisville and first exhibited in 1961, after working for The New Yorker, Town & Country, and Sports Illustrated in the 1950's. He is best known today for his sporting art, especially related to equestrian sports such as horse racing, polo and hunting. Original works sell at major auctions. Considered something of an Anglophile, Koehler has spent a lot of time in the British Isles, honing his observation of this subject matter that is quite apparently his favorite. The present drawing I thought bore a resemblance to a younger Franklin Roosevelt, but this is pure speculation. Yellowish tones are false colors suggested by the camera which are not in fact present.
