A watercolor on paper on board painting of a landscape of central Australia, 10 3/4" by 14 1/2", unframed, signed at lower right by the noted Australian artist EWALD NAMATJIRA (1930-1984). On the reverse is written, not likely by the artist, "Ewald Namagera/Aboriginal artist/Central Australia/1968". The original $12.00 price is faintly written nearby in pencil. Ewald Namatjira was the third son of the famed Australian aborigine artist Albert Namatjira. He accompanied his father on painting sessions as a youth, and at only 17 was already painting well on his own. In 1949 an accident with a hunting rifle caused him to lose sight in his right eye, but in spite of the injury he continued to paint for many years thereafter. Today, his paintings, and those of his famous father and his brothers, are commonly seen on the Australian auction scene, where they are eagerly sought after. This painting is in excellent condition, needing only framing.
