Oil on board large painting (30" by 24", 37" by 31" framed) of a variety of colorful flowers in a white ceramic vessel on a tabletop, a small oriental statue, oriental hand fan and small copper pot included as props in the image. The outstanding and unique feature of the painting is the otherworldly pinkish-orange glow of the light which bathes the scene and unifies it. The colors are electric, especially the blues, and they are accentuated by this unusual light. The painting is signed at lower right "HARNDEN" (American artist and illustrator William Harnden, 1920-1983). Harnden was born in Cleveland but went to New York for study at the Art Students League with Frank DuMond. He appears to have been active in the New York area, with a number of gallery and art society exhibitions. Many known works are of western American subject matter. The painting and frame have a smoke odor so the piece was apparently hanging in a smoker's home or restaurant/other public place perhaps. A light cleaning might mitigate this. The mid century frame is not wood, but a plastic made to resemble wood. It is functional but the buyer might wish to reframe to bring this work to its best presentation.
