PAIR of gouache paintings on paper, unframed, each 19 3/4" by 25 1/2", both signed by listed French mid century artist GERARD CABUS (born 1926). One appears to be dated 1967. Cabus was very active in the late 1950's through the 1960's, producing abstract compositions and other works in oil and watercolor. His biography is scant, but it does appear that major Paris galleries in the early 1960's gave him one man exhibitions, and some works have appeared at auction in France. These drawings are on paper pasted down to another sheet of white paper. One is titled "Trees" on the reverse, the other "The Falaise of the Ardeche" (in English). The works are rumpled by perhaps having been stored in a damp environment, but other than the rumpled, uneven surface, visible in the photos, they are in excellent condition. Freshly matted and framed, they will be fine examples of mid-century painting in Europe.
