Old watercolor painting of a whitewashed interior with red tile floor, a dominating hearth with bellows and pots at center of the image. The work, measuring 17" by 11 1/4" (24" by 17 1/2" framed), is signed with initials at lower right that appears to be "HB" with a semi-circle around it...or maybe "CHB". Another word, below, appears as "Apr 1...." or similar. Sadly it is cut off there, and on the reverse there is no other hint as to authorship. The work was found in Los Angeles but there are a number of possibilities as to origin. The deep window opening, white stone masonry and so forth suggests possibly Bermuda, or Mexico, or New Mexico, or somewhere in the Mediterranean (Greece, Italy, or other sun-washed locale)----or, even, Southern California. This one is a mystery, but it is very well executed by a trained hand. Condition is excellent.
