Watercolor and ink painting on paper, unframed, 15" by 19 1/2", signed at lower right and titled there "New Orleans/Dixieland Hall" by the noted German-born artist and jazz fan LEO MEIERSDORFF (1934-1994). This is a rather typical work of the artist, who is best known for such illustrations of the famous jazz scene in New Orleans. Meiersdorff was born in Berlin. In Germany in the 1950's he was part of a jazz band. He became a merchant seaman and by 1959 was in New York following his jazz passion, a passion that soon inevitably led him to New Orleans. He became quite well known for these watercolor paintings of that subject matter, though he also created posters and record cover art. By 1979 he was living in Lake Arrowhead in the mountains near Los Angeles. This drawing is laid down on a board (can be lifted up at lower left corner). It is in very good condition with just a smudge or two at top and a slight discolored area at lower left edge, not very noticeable. Meiersdorff drawings have sold at auctions to about $1,700.
