Original circa 1930's Chocolat Vinay box, circular, 9 3/4" diameter, 2 1/8" in height, the outer surfaces covered in lithographed patterns featuring what appear to be white roses against a Deco style patterned background. The interior of the box is printed in a gold and violet rose pattern. The bottom is a dark red, with the identification of the manufacturer of the chocolates. The box though it exhibits heavy wear---on the surfaces, and edges----retains a collectability. It is clearly an interesting, scarce, decorative survivor of the fabled Deco days. Recently acquired from the sale of the possessions of a local artist who was very interested in the Art Deco period and its designs as expressed in prints, furniture, tile, and textiles.
