Oil on canvas Arizona desert landscape titled, "From Chandler", 16" by 20" with 1 1/2" original frame, signed at lower left (in hard to see orange) by listed artist HAZEL ROBERTS (1883-1966). The painting likely dates from the 1930's or 1940's. There's not a lot presently known about the artist, other than that she was in San Francisco in 1927, that she exhibited at the Los Angeles County Fair in 1929, and that she painted in Southern California until at least 1942. This work shows an Arizona that is rapidly disappearing due to development pressures. Chandler, an empty expanse with cactus when this painting was executed, is now a busy Phoenix suburb with thousands of homes. Note the original price the artist placed on the painting, "$200.00". The painting has some unstable paint along the stretcher bar at left and along the bottom, where there are some losses. Please view all photos, and I can send you more closeups of the flaking at bottom. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER PAINTINGS/PRINTS NOW IN MY SHOP.
