Chromolithograph late 19th century print after a work by the noted German landscape artist THEODORE WEBER (1838-1907), the scene of the Italian coast, figures walking up a hillside road leading away from the sea, an ancient church steeple at left. The piece measures 18 3/4" by 12 1/2" inside the old mat, 28" by 21" in old gold frame, which shows its age with various chips and losses. Weber's oils and watercolors sell to about the $10,000 level at auctions. His style was finely detailed and academic in the nineteenth century tradition. Coastal scenes of France are also among Weber's works, as he studied in Paris beginning in 1856, having left Berlin. This print is very clean, and from a distance, passes easily for a watercolor original.
