Ink on paper drawing of a traditionally dressed Jewish Orthodox boy, 6 3/4" by 4 3/4" (11 1/2" by 9 1/2" framed), signed in Hebrew script at lower left "M. Bernstein". This is a work of the noted Israeli artist MOSHE BERNSTEIN (1920-2006). Bernstein was born in Poland and received art instruction at the Academy of Vilna in Lithuania in 1935. Displaced during the war, and witness to his family's decimation in the Holocaust, he went to Palestine in 1947. During the post war years he received increasing recognition for his sentimental images of treasured shtetl memories of his youth. His work, testament to the destruction of European Jewry, has been widely exhibited. Photos taken through detail-dulling non-glare glass.
