Oil on canvas spring landscape, 24" by 30" and 2" wide framing, signed at lower right TWICE by the well listed artist ERNEST FREDERICKS (1877-1959). The signatures actually read "FRED E SWEDLUND", which was the artist's true name, the "Fredericks" one being a pseudonym......but, interestingly, that is the name under which most of his works appear at auction. The artist was born in Sweden and spent most of his life in the Midwest, painting in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Indiana and notably, Arkansas (where he lived in Eureka Springs, after moving from Chicago). Most works are landscapes, many of the Ozark Mountains, and his colors and overall style are quite distinctive and recognizable at a distance. This being a work dealing with springtime would appear to be more rare, many of the paintings showing a fall scene.
