Pencil signed color offset print of one of the Rockport paintings of the noted New England artist ALDRO THOMPSON HIBBARD (1886-1972), measuring 8 3/4" by 9 3/4" as framed. Hibbard signed the print in the margin. The artist was a major impressionist painter, one of whose works brought $88,000 in 2012 at auction, and many have exceeded $20,000. Hibbard is perhaps best known for his sweeping winter scenes of the state of Vermont. Born in Falmouth, Massachusetts on Cape Cod, he spent most of his life in Rockport on Cape Ann, site of the famous artist colony. Hibbard studied in Boston with Frank Benson, Edmund Tarbell, and Frederick Bosley. He is credited with having influenced painters such as Emile Gruppe, Tom Nicholas, Paul Strisik, and others. Hibbard was a National Academician, and a member of the Rockport and North Shore Art associations. This is only the second such signed print that I have owned. There is a slight moisture stain at upper margin, otherwise this is in excellent condition. Allow for some reflection in the glass at upper left.
