A bit of science and medicine memorabilia---an 1817 engraving titled at top "London Vaccination Institution", granting a diploma to a Peter Wyatt, Esq. I see that the Institute began in 1803 to further smallpox vaccination in the Jennerian manner. I quickly searched for information on this Mr. Wyatt but did not find. The name of the "Lord Mayor" of London, Matthew Wood, M.P., is also hand written on the certificate, at bottom. Drawn originally by James George Oben (bottom left margin) and engraved by J. Dadly (lower right margin). A fascinating piece of medical history, from a time when the scourge of smallpox would have been a vivid memory in the minds of living people. Size is 13 1/2" by 10 3/4" within the mat, 18 1/2" by 15" framed. Very good condition.
