Oil on canvas seascape of waves breaking on the beach, 24" by 48" (32" by 56" framed), signed at lower right by the noted California artist WILLIAM BLACKMAN (1930-). This is a beautifully painted work by an artist known for this kind of material. Blackman was born in San Diego and began showing artistic promise at an early age. After some years in the commercial side of the business, a chance encounter in 1964 with an executive of the Aaron Brothers art supply chain resulted in a mutually rewarding relationship in which Blackman supplied the original art and Aaron Brothers sold it in their stores across the country. Soon Blackman had trouble meeting the demand for his work, and he completely left behind his other endeavors to concentrate full time on providing work for Aaron Brothers. Seascapes, bluebonnet paintings (for the Texas market) and tropical scenes (a commercial relationship with a Hawaiian outfit) comprise the great majority of Blackman's work. In later years Blackman published a number of "how to" painting books, and prints were made from some paintings. This painting has the quality of a Dzigurski or Robert Wood style work without the price tag. Condition is excellent overall, I note just a slight pressure dimple at top left center that might relax on its own; ready to hang on the wall. Email me to discuss shipping options/cost.
