Pastel on paper landscape of a river or lake surrounded by feathery evergreens, 9 1/2" by 19 1/2" (14 1/2" by 24 1/4" framed), signed at lower right by the noted well listed California artist CARL SAMMONS (1883-1968). This could be a view of one of Northern California's coastal rivers, such as the Russian or Eel, or, it could be of a lake in the mountains. Sammons was born in Nebraska, and was in California by 1919. He studied at the California School of Fine Arts. Based in Oakland, he traveled the state from end to end, painting in pastel and oil its mountains, desert and spectacular coastline. Sammons also traveled in other parts of the West and Southwest, leaving an impressive legacy of landscape art to be enjoyed by future generations. See a coastal pastel by him in my shop.
