Fine old 19th century watercolor painting of a cavalier-type figure and a woman trying the new batch of wine as it comes from the cask, a friendly dog lazing at right. The painting measures 10 1/4" by 13 1/2" inside the mat, (presently essentially unframed, the frame is in poor condition and is very inexpensive to begin with), signed at lower right by artist Gamba da Vinza. I have researched the name and do not find a listing for this artist, who was obviously well trained. The paper is laid down on an old board. The full situation is explained by the photo taken with the mat raised up out of the way. A very fine old watercolor that would be fit for display in a fine winery! Likely executed circa 1880 or thereabouts.
