This work is guaranteed to be an original pencil drawing, and not a print nor reproduction of any kind. The drawing (15" by 23", 20" by 26 3/4" in simple metal framing) is amazingly detailed, featuring an old time steam boat, the General Slocum, as it might have appeared in New York harbor around the turn of the century. The Brooklyn Bridge towers at right and sailing craft complete the scene at lower right. The artist signed the work at lower left and dated it 1995. Karvelas does not seem to be a "listed" artist in the normal sense, though there is internet reference to him. He seems to be a fan of the great ocean liners and maritime history. In 2002 his work was included in a marine art exhibition in Bermuda. There is no glass, though the condition is excellent. On the reverse is a handwritten label with the artist's address in Queens, New York.
