In a long tradition of so-called "woolies", pictures of marine scenes wrought in wool by hand, this is a work showing a 19th century clipper that looks like the famous "Old Ironsides", now a floating museum in Boston. Note the American flag at the stern. The unframed work, wrapped around a board, measures 9 1/2" by 13 1/2". The age is to me uncertain; I note the later-looking lattice structure seen on the reverse, and the four digit number "1762", possibly just a reference number. With the exception of some areas of the baby blue background, which look mottled in places, the colors are fresh, and there is no insect damage.
