Watercolor and gouache on paper, 4 1/2" by 12 1/4", (10" by 17 3/4" in modern framing), apparently unsigned, but I believe likely by a member of the talented and prolific GIANNI Italian painter family. There are a number of painters going under the name "Gianni", possibly from the same family. Many works of such southern Italian scenes are signed M. Gianni, others Y. Gianni. The auction houses I think have generally mixed up these late 19th/first half of the 20th century painters and the auction records are hopelessly tangled and inaccurate. This example has some condition issues---old staining at upper portion across the top of the trellis and extending over the sea, appearing as discolored brownish and whitish areas in sky, some lighter stains below just above the distant headland.
