Oil on canvas painting, unframed, 24" by 18", titled on stretcher in artist's hand "TAKING IN THE SIGHTS ON ROMANTIC CHURCH STREET, CHARLESTON", and signed at lower left by the late San Diego county artist and poet NATALIE REED. Reed was a familiar name in the arts community in the San Diego area, creating paintings and sculptures and even murals in large scale for public buildings, including a work for the Federal Building in downtown San Francisco. She was a traveler, painting along the way in France (Giverny/Monet's garden a favorite), Venice, elsewhere in Europe, and Africa, as well as the southern United States. I understand that she has passed away but have not seen a formal obituary. This painting shows the familiar architecture, palmettos and church of the historic district of Charleston, South Carolina. It is in good condition save for a slight 3" vertical scratch to the left of the figure at right with his dog; a small dig in the word "Natalie"; and some very light soiling (but you wouldn't have to have this cleaned before display). The regular size would assist in locating a ready-made frame for this.
