Oil on canvas painting of steep coastal cliffs and vigorous surf, 25" by 30" (32" by 37" in distressed style light wood frame), signed at lower right and again on the reverse (where it is titled and dated also) by listed California artist ROY ROPP (1888-1974). Ropp was born in Kansas and was a carpenter in Oklahoma before arriving in Laguna Beach in Southern California in the year 1921. At first a builder, and insurance and real estate agent, by 1931 he was producing impressionist style paintings of the scenic local landscape, including deserts and coastals. Ropp was creative director of the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna, which continues to this day. His paintings are sold at auction. This example is in generally very good condition, with a very shallow, small dimple noted, and some foreign matter in the sky (easily removed). The frame has a little cracking going on at right, and the old linen liner is tired. Hand delivery possible if you are the Los Angeles or Orange County areas.
