Watercolor on paper drawing, unframed, 15" by 21 1/2" inside the gold mat, the subject two proper late Victorian women with parasols, on a small boat in a lake landscape, towering trees in the background, signed at lower left with what appears as "D. G. Streeton", and dated there 1898. This is a nicely executed work, probably American. I cannot seem to match it to a known artist. It is not the work of Australian Arthur Ernest Streeton. I also thought the signature could be "Streeter", but I cannot locate a suitable artist by that name, either. This was found in a battered turn of the century frame. I have retained the gold original mat, which has on it in an oval stamp the name of a New York art materials business of the period. This will be shipped between stiff boards.
