Watercolor on paper painting of sheep in a late autumn pasture, 9 1/2" by 13 1/2" inside the mat, 15" by 19" in simple white frame, signed at lower right "J. Wright--NY". This is a very old work that retains freshness of color. The artist could be J. Dunbar Wright of New York (1862-1917), but I cannot ascertain that at the present time. J. Dunbar Wright was a landscape artist in New York at the turn of the century, so this would be a reasonable speculation. A short news story in an 1892 New York Times issue mentions that a "society man" of this name was involved in a serious buggy accident in Central Park that left him with various injuries. I would suggest a new mat and frame to bring this to best presentation. There is some dirt on the inside of the glass but the work itself appears clean.
