Found in Los Angeles, this is an early 20th century American watercolor of a young lady in her finery, including an over-the-top blue bonnet, signed at lower right by one Olvena Taft Lorenz (I believe that to be the signature....first name difficult to decipher). There is a Howard Taft Lorenz artist from California who worked during the WPA years; would be interesting to know if there might be a relationship. This watercolor, 15" by 11" (19" by 15" in the frame), one of three similar works in my shop, dates to a time when illustrators like Harrison Fisher and Charles Dana Gibson were creating much of precisely this type of imagery. The oval work is nicely framed and the entire package has survived a century in excellent condition. It is ready to hang on the wall in a lady's dressing area or bedroom.
