Finely worked little watercolor painting of a traditional scene in England, the subject several substantial thatched roof homes on an unpaved road, circa first half of the twentieth century, by listed English watercolorist BURFORD JOYCE. The painting measures 5" by 6 3/4" inside the present mat (and extends a bit further underneath it, the signature being found there) and 10" by 12" as nicely framed in an older frame. Joyce does not seem to have a biography available online, but the artist clearly specialized in one subject and one subject only---thatched roof homes, and cottages, in bucolic English landscapes. He clearly excelled at this specialty. Despite the small size the work has impressive atmosphere and light. The condition is excellent. A fine addition to your small wall in need of something better than a print.
