Impressive modernist still life on canvas, painted in a semi-abstract style, 11 1/4" by 27" (17" by 33" in heavy, attractive, quality wood burl frame), signed at lower right and dated "64" by twentieth century Mexican artist LUIS TOLEDO (1929-2007). The artist also seems to have gone by the name "J. Luis Toledo". Little biographical information seems to be available, but he seems to have been most active from the late 1950's through the mid 1970's. The style is quite modern, with complex, almost cubist patterns formed by the objects in his still life and in his abstract compositions, all painted in fairly conservative colors. Works have been auctioned in Venezuela and in Mexico, though not at the higher numbers the work deserves. This is painted with quality materials and the recent frame in rich reddish brown burl is very attractive with the painting (I believe the previous owner paid a lot for the framing). Condition is excellent. This is ready for the wall.
