Older vintage woodblock print (circa 1950?) titled at bottom in French "Santorine" (famed scenic Aegean island of Santorini), the view somewhat idealized, looking south along the dramatic cliffs, probably from Oia. The work includes very delicate colors on the equally delicate paper. At bottom left is written "epreuve d'essai/tiree a la main sur japon" (trial proof, hand pulled, on Japan), and at bottom right in the image appears the monogram of the artist, the "EI" apparently standing for an E. (rest of name unknown) Imitriou or d'Imitriou. I am so far unable to locate an artist who might correspond to this name or variations of it---to my great surprise, considering the quality and professionalism of the work. The print measures 11 1/4" by 7 1/4" inside the mat, and 19 3/4" by 15" as framed. Condition is not flawless but is very good, with light folds at bottom left and bottom right center that might actually be from the time of printing, or present in the paper before printing. More research should turn up information on this artist---the work is too good to be by an unknown. A prize for anyone who, (as do I), remembers their time spent on this unique, world-famous island. Allow for reflections in a few images. Dots on some images of the signature area are just water droplets on the outside of the glass that were not totally wiped off at time photos were taken.
