Watercolor on paper landscape of steep hills behind a middle ground of small structures, fence posts in the foreground, 13 3/4" by 20 3/4" (21 1/2" by 32" framed), signed at lower left in red by noted Japanese-American artist KENNETH K. HIGASHIMACHI (1901-1991). Higashimachi lived in Hawaii and is most associated with that state. Most known paintings seem to focus on Hawaiian subject matter. This scene might be Hawaiian, judging from the steep jagged peak in the left background. Condition is excellent and the technique obviously skilled, the blue of the hills blending gently into the sky due to the wet-on-wet technique. Several of the artist's works have appeared at auction.
