This is the 1928 (issue date) work "L'Eglise de Limours", dated 1922 in the plate, after a painting by French School of Paris master artist MAURICE UTRILLO (1883-1955), with the graphic art assistance of also important master artist Jacques Villon. The work, unframed, and measuring 19 1/2" by 11 1/4" presently, is one of the very collectable "Chalcographie du Louvre" impressions. This notation appears at extreme bottom, and the names of Utrillo and Villon also appear at extreme bottom. Some examples of this print with the pencil signatures of the two artists in the margin area bring in the low thousands at auction. This work has been severely trimmed, having lost all the original margin areas, and it was laid on a piece of thick cardboard long ago. There is considerable yellowish browning of the print and a few minor discolorations and abrasions. The artist needs little introduction, as one of the few painters of Montmartre who was actually born there (the son of artist Suzanne Valadon). His oils of intimate street scenes of Montmartre regularly bring to the mid hundreds of thousands at major auctions. A pleasing acquisition for the Francophile.
