Oil on canvas of the high Japanese mountains in late fall, snow streaks on the highest peaks, 12" by 16", (20 1/2" by 24 1/2" framed), signed at lower left by the talented 20th century Japanese artist who signs as "NOBUO". A look at the auction records shows, I think, a large degree of confusion as to the identity of the artist who paints these scenes. There is a Kurosawa Nobuo (1930-) and a Hayashi Nobuo (1925-). The auction records appear to be hopelessly confused. There do appear to be significant auction records in Japan for the latter, up to the $3,000 range. It does appear that this painting dates from the 1960's or 1970's. Save for a slight abraded area above and to the left of the small boat at center left, It is in excellent condition. This is a great little impressionist work sure to please the collector of Japanese art.
