If you are a decorator looking for a "look" without spending the bigger money, here is an interesting option: a PAIR of works (11 3/4" by 22" framed) that for all the world, look like antique Italian watercolors of the 19th century, featuring coastal ruins and boats in Naples waters with Vesuvius in the distance, and a coastal scene with Capri offshore. These fooled me easily, and I am a full time art dealer; I thought them originals, as the foxing spots in the sky, the browned/discolored paper, the "G. Carelli" signatures (Giuseppe Carelli, 1858-1921, Italian School) and the amazing detail convinced me quickly that they were watercolors. I continued to believe so until I removed them from the framing for photography---then discovered that these are detailed color photos, or more likely color photocopies, or giclees, nicely framed in gold to give the appearance of original art. I would doubt highly that any visitor to your home or office would ever suspect that the antiquity suggested here is completely faux. Highly decorative pieces, ready for the wall!
