Fine old watercolor and ink drawing of a yard shaded by large tree, a quaint storage shed at right, 13 1/2" by 9 1/4" (21" by 16"), an old typed label on the reverse giving the artist name and biography. Swan was a painter and watercolorist of some note. He studied at the Royal Academy schools, and was recipient of the Landseer Scholarship. Between 1908 and 1940 the artist exhibited a number of pictures at the Royal Academy, at the Royal Society of British Artists, and at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolor. Although this work does not appear to be signed, at extreme upper right written in pencil in an English hand is "Robert Swan" and the symbol of Pound Sterling and "18". I am confidently offering this as a work by Robert Swan. The condition is very good.
